To help run the event, the Heavy Horse Festival had originally applied for $14,565.95 through the Tourism Recovery Funding budget but just missed out in the competitive process.

They will now receive the full amount.

The leftover funding came from successful applicants  that had to return funds due to their event being downscaled or cancelled due to COVID-19.

The returned funding had been allocated for Mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship (cancelled), Qld Motorists Re-Enactment Weekend 2021 (scaled down) and Grazing the Granite Belt Spring Edition (scaled down), totalling $43,143.

The Stanthorpe Festival Association will also receive up to $30,000 for the 2022 Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Harvest Festival under the Tourism Recovery Funding budget.

As the total for both slightly exceeds $43,143, any shortfall will funded from council’s operating budget.
