Old fashion fun at Jondaryan Harvest Banquet

A crowd of 70 gathered at the historic Jondaryan Woolshed on Saturday November 6 for the Jondaryan Harvest Banquet held to raise funds for the Jondaryan State School’s 150th anniversary celebrations taking place in 2022.

Jondaryan State School P&C committee members who organised the Harvest Banquet were Steve Martin, (Jondaryan), Ali Cooke, (Jondaryan), Andrew Mirtschin, (Jondaryan), and Anita Polzin, (Jondaryan).

Jondaryan State School P&C 150th committee chairman Steve Martin said it was nice to be able to hold an event after 18 months of COVID-19 restrictions.

“I think everyone really enjoyed the opportunity to get together and hang out and enjoy what is the community of Jondaryan,” Mr Martin said.

“We were very pleased with the support from local business houses and their generous donations for our auction and raffle.”

Guests were treated to music from pianist Scott Reichelt during dinner and took to the dance floor when Kieran and Kadi Lillis started playing later in the night.

Close to $7,000 was raised and the funds will go towards planning commemorative events.

A special school assembly will be held on February 11, 2022, at Jondaryan State School to mark the official opening of the school on February 12, 1872, and a set of memorial gates will be erected.

On September 3 a school fete will be held for past and present students, teachers, parents and the wider community to celebrate one of the oldest schools on the Darling Downs.
