Allora QCWA Member Now Division President

Congratulations to Mrs Sharon Hannah of QCWA Allora Branch on being elected the new QCWA Border Division President after the retirement of Mrs Irene Peachey of Stanthorpe.

New President Sharon Hannah.

Mrs Hannah said she looks forward to being part of the next century of QCWA and the “new challenges of changing times.”

She grew up in the west and attended school in Charters Towers, and after living in Brisbane, Gladstone, Launceston, and Newcastle, moved to the local area as her family had a long history around Sandy Creek.

QCWA interests go back to when Sharon’s paternal grandmother was a member of the Boulia Branch and recalls conversations with her grandmother on the occasion when she received a visit from the founder of QCWA, Mrs Ruth Fairfax when she was moving their sheep to the Northern Territory in the 1920s drought.

Upon retirement, Sharon joined the QCWA Allora Branch, where she became the Branch President and enjoyed the involvement with the Allora community.

Sharon enjoys all types of handcraft and became the Division Handcraft Committee Chairman and has earned her Handcraft Teacher Badge.

She has enjoyed visiting many areas of Queensland in her capacity as Branch President and attending the Annual Handicraft School.

As Division President, Sharon will attend Branch functions and meetings, Chair monthly QCWA Border Division meetings, attend QCWA State Council meetings in Brisbane and Toowoomba, Region meetings and the annual QCWA State Conferences.

QCWA 2023 State Conference will be held again in Toowoomba this year as the QCQA continues to celebrate its Centenary.

The Border Division’s Headquarters are in Warwick, with 16 Branches at Allora, Clifton, Victoria Hill, Leyburn, Cunningham, Condamine Valley/Warwick, Hermitage/Yangan, Emu Vale, Killarney, Mt. Colliery, Dalveen, Broadwater, Granite Belt Weekenders, Glen Aplin, Wallangarra and Texas.
