Chad Morgan Concert at Gowrie Little Plain Hall

Chad Morgan continued his world-record 71-year streak of touring when he performed live in front of a full house at the Gowrie Little Plain Hall on Sunday afternoon.

ABOVE: Chad Morgan received the biggest cheer of the afternoon when he took off his wide-brimmed headwear, and took out his trademark floppy hat.

The Sheik of Scrubby Creek returned to a venue where he had first performed at in the 1950s.

It’s believed that he shares the record for oldest tourist country musician with Willie Nelson, also 90.

People travelled from far-flung reaches of the Oakey district, including Bell, to see the living legend perform live.

Chad regaled the crowd with his trademark humour and sang hits such as “I’m my own Grandpa” and others written by his long time friend Trevor Day.

A starting time of midday was convenient for those who were unable to drive to night events, allowing many new faces and even a couple of young families to attend.

The billing of “A show you can afford to see but not one you can afford to miss” proved to be accurate.

Chad was accompanied on the billing by Mount Tarampa-based singer Kylie Hogan and his son, former truck driver Chad Morgan Junior.

Chad junior told The Champion he’d begun singing with his father on the road following the loss of an older brother and song-writer Allan Morgan to motor neurone disease.

The Morgans currently reside in Caboolture, but Chad junior says they plan to move to a property in Gin Gin with his wife.

“He’s like a red wine, just gets better with age,” he said.

At present, the pair tours along the East Coast down to Tasmania and also South Australia.

Having suffered a serious road incident early in his life, Chad senior had some trademark tongue-in-cheek advice for the audience.

“Make sure you drive on the footpath, because all accidents happen on the road!”

The concert finished  with a rendition of “There’s life in the old dog yet”.

Chad Morgan is scheduled to return to Gowrie Little Plain Hall in February next year.
