Clifton SHS class of 2021 bids farewell

It was an emotional day for some on Friday 19 November as students from the Clifton State High School (SHS) class of 2021 had their final ever day of school.

As is tradition, the Graduation Ceremony held on the day included speeches, a graduation cake and students leaving school through a procession of younger students and staff while the principal rings a bell as the students leave the front gate. During his address to the year 12 students, Principal Lou Oberholzer used the song Unbreakable by Birds of Tokyo as an inspiration, echoing the lyrics from the chorus of the song: “When you’re standing tall, you’re unbreakable.” The valedictorian speech was delivered by Maddie Lucas and Vincent Pohlman, who took their classmates on a trip down memory lane through the past six years of high school. Acting Head of Depart-ment Senior School Adam Layton wished the students the best for their future. Mr Layton will join the Clifton SHS Leadership Team permanently as Head of Department Senior School from 2022. Across the speeches, the sources of inspiration in the form of quotes was quite varied, from Shakespeare and Theodore Roosevelt to Michael Jordan and Dr Seuss.
