Corsages a collective act of kindness

A fine example of the collective kindness that abounds in Pittsworth is the tradition of giving out sprays of flowers around Mother’s Day every year.

The tradition began in the 1990s with the Chamber of Commerce which later became Go Pittsworth then Pittsworth District Alliance, and it continued with each change through the years.

Some flowers are purchased and donations of blooms and foliage flow in from local gardeners, then a band of merry volunteers gets busy at the Hotel Motel assembling the colourful gifts.

A lovely addition to many is a guinea fowl feather from the Banyard Quail Farm just out of Pittsworth.

This year’s efforts produced 450 floral sprays which were given out at a range of community groups and handed out by the Scouts in town on Saturday.

Pittsworth Seniors had a visit from Ros Scotney on behalf of the Pittsworth District Alliance with some of the corsages for members at their weekly meeting on Friday.

A reminder for Pittsworth Seniors that there will be a committee meeting on Friday at 10.30am followed by the usual games and raffles.
