Councillors consult with local community during visit to Oakey

Toowoomba Region Councillors Bill Cahill and Melissa Taylor met with a wide cross-section of the Oakey community as part of a scheduled township visit with everything on the table from fixing the gardens in the main street, to the future residential growth opportunities in the region and creating more RV parking in the CBD.

Toowoomba Regional Councillors Melissa Taylor and Bill Cahill (centre) met with Oakey community members Geoff Byers, Lois Thorne, Gail Jones, Eric Haering and Rebecca Meacham at the Oakey Information Centre.

Crs Taylor and Cahill met community members and representatives from several local groups including the Lions Club of Oakey, Oakey Men’s Shed, Oakey Chamber of Commerce and Oakey Information Centre.

Oakey Chamber of Commerce president Rebecca Meacham said she welcomed the Councillors visit to Oakey.

“It was a very constructive meeting with Cr Melissa and Cr Bill,” she said,

“It was great that they took an interest in the community and our concerns.

“The Chamber of Commerce brought up a number of projects and issues for Oakey including gaps in the core services in the town and our future planning scheme needs.”

Mrs Meacham said the Chamber of Commerce representatives also discussed possible projects to beautify the gardens in the main street and create a dedicated RV parking area in the CBD.

She said the meeting was a great stepping stone for making a number of ideas a reality.
