Huge round of grants for local groups

Pittsworth and Millmerran groups have been big winners in the latest round of Toowoomba Regional Council's Community Grants program.


Pittsworth Bowls Club will receive $27,803 for replacing a bore. 

The club will contribute $5,035 towards the cost.

Millmerran’s Australian Camp Oven Festival will receive $20,000 to help fund its event.

The annual festival, on October 1 and 2 this year, commemorates traditional Australian camp oven cooking and the lifestyle activities associated with it.

The festival contributes $244,230 towards the event.

Pittsworth and District Campdraft Association will receive $12,215 to upgrade the arena surface.

Council noted the arena is well used for multiple events and needs upgrading to improve safety. The association will be contributing $2,235.

Millmerran Auto Club will receive the full amount requested, $10,943.18 to purchase a ride-on mower and brushcutter, adding its own contribution of $3,647 towards the cost.

Gardens of the Downs will receive $4,000 to host a Garden Arts Weekend, a weekend of workshops to share skills and knowledge in the creation of barbed-wire and corrugated iron works. Gardens of the Downs is contributing $402 towards the event.

The Lions Club of Pittsworth will receive $2,500 towards replacing the club’s barbecues, which have been used for around 20 years and are wearing out.

Millmerran Men’s Shed will receive $2,199 for the restoration of Ivanhoe Cemetery. The project includes carrying out a respectful restoration and erecting signage to preserve the historical and cultural recognition of early settlers.

The Millmerran Men’s Shed will be providing in-kind labour to perform works.

History Pittsworth will receive $2,000 towards producing negatives to prints. 

The project includes more than 400 glass negatives to clean, catalogue and print for hanging at an exhibition in Brisbane, further tours at museums in the Pittsworth district, followed by set-up for public viewing at the Pittsworth Pioneer Village.

History Pittsworth is contributing $280 towards the project.

Darling Downs Show Jumping Club was unsuccessful in its request of $15,304.07 for  a custom-built trailer. 

Due to the competitive nature of this funding round, funding was not recommended for this application. 

Millmerran Lions Club was unsuccessful in its application for $2,200 for purchasing an honour board to go into the Millmerran Cultural Centre with names of the Australia Day Citizens of the Year and the Sportsperson of the Year Award winners, going back 50 years and including Cecil Plains winners.

Southbrook Sports Club
was unsuccessful in its application to receive $2,044 for purchasing a new fridge and deep fryer for the Southbrook Sports Clubhouse.

Pittsworth Art Group was unsuccessful in its application to receive $1,538 for erecting signage on the front of the Pittsworth Art Gallery. 

The Art Group also wanted to purchase at flat-pack bookcases to assemble to house the its extensive collection of reference books.
