Pittsworth Garden Club members visit Stanthorpe festival

Garden Club members and friends have had a very busy February indeed.

Chey Matthews, Tammy Vary, Ann Cobb, Helen Miller and Penny Matthews enjoyed their Pittsworth Garden Club bus trip to Braeside Homestead which was opened as part of the Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Festival.

Thank you to Bev and Russell Witt for holding our first meeting in their lovely garden.

It was a great start to the year with many people attending and enjoying the garden.

Guest speaker Sue Short gave a very interesting talk on growing cuttings, planting and trimming geraniums and pelargoniums.

Thank you Sue for sharing your knowledge.

Morgan Holcrombe, who is starting a new gardening business, introduced himself to the assembly and provided business cards for interested people.

After a week of shall we go, or shall we stay, because of the inclement weather and flooding, the bus trip to the Apple and Grape Festival at Stanthorpe went ahead.

Braeside Homestead  was our first stop and what a magnificent garden it was.

The homestead, built in 1874, has undergone major restoration.

The gardens cover about 12 acres, including  terraces and pathways and a great viewing area to the trees and the creek which was running rapidly.

Our next stop was the Christmas shop which delighted us all.

We enjoyed their lovely ice cream as we checked out the reindeer and other animals at the farm.

Now on to the festival where we visited the lovely ‘Wahroonga’, meaning place by the water.

“Wharoonga” is a fitting name as it was very near the fast flowing creek.

Stanthorpe was in full fiesta mood as we walked the main street.

The colourful parade was very enjoyable with its marching bands, old machinery, vintage cars, floats and more.

Now back to business.

The AGM will be held on the 22nd March at Club Pittsworth, 9.30am start.

Our monthly meeting will follow.

Please bring a cup and a plate to share for morning tea.

Membership is now due.

Flower Competition: A collection of three Geraniums or pelargoniums.

Sue Short is donating a Geranium for the winner of this competition for this month.

Raffle Winners: Denise Farrell, Sue Short, Romona Postle, Bev Witt, Margaret Small and Ronda Newsham.
