Plans to build church at Top Camp

A development application has been submitted to Toowoomba Regional Council on behalf of West Toowoomba Gospel Trust to build a church at 3 Schmidt Court, Top Camp.

The layout plan for the church and surrounds at 3 Schmidt Court.

The 5,298m2 site, zoned rural residential, borders the New England Highway directly north of Beauly Drive.

The planning report, compiled by Precinct Urban Planning, says the proposal seeks a Development Permit for Material Change of Use.

“The site previously included a residence and outbuildings that have recently been removed,” the report says.

“The proposed worship facility will be located at the northern end of the site and will address Schmidt Court.”

The report states that the new building will be single storey with a height of 4.65 metres and will have a gross floor area of 148m2 with a 40m2 awning at the front entrance on the south side of the building.

“The building will be slab-on-ground construction with face-brick external wall cladding and a sheet-metal hip/gable roof.

“The internal layout of the building will include a meeting room and foyer/vestibule with kitchenette and amenities.

“The worship facility will have a regular weekly congregation of up to 50 people for a service between 6am - 9am on Sundays and prayer meeting between 5pm - 8pm on Mondays.

“Approximately 7 to 8 times per annum, additional prayer meetings for up to 110 people will be held at the site between 3pm - 4pm on Sundays.”

There is space set aside for 21 on-site sealed carparks.

It is noted that services will not include the use of amplified sound/music and all windows and doors will be closed during service times to assist with noise management.

Data from onthehouse.com.au indicates 3 Schmidt Court was last sold in July 2016 for $295,000.

The owners are G. Kingon, M. A. Evenden and G. D. Thrush, as trustees of the West Toowoomba Gospel Trust.
