Special honour bestowed on student

Nominated among high-achievers from across the region, Clifton State High School (CSHS) student Benjamin Auld is the inaugural recipient of the Apex Club of Toowoomba’s Young Citizen Award.

Benjamin Auld received the Young Citizen Award from Apex Club of Toowoomba social director Tristan Smith.

Club Secretary David Gray said the Young Citizen Award seeks to recognise a male and female Year 12 Student who has performed exceptional service to the community through extracurricular activities.

Benjamin was nominated for his service to the Nobby Brigade of the Queensland Rural Fire Service.

Schools from Toowoomba and surrounds were invited by the club to nominate a student for the award.

In their application on behalf of Benjamin, CSHS nominated him for his volunteer work and ability to demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities.

His volunteer work for the fire brigade includes assisting in controlled burns, attending monthly meetings and AGMs and marching on Anzac Day.

He also helped out at the Clifton Races last year and with flood recovery in Inglewood.

“During his 2.5 years of service, Ben has developed his leadership, communication, teamwork and management skills and has proven his ability to work with a wide variety of community members, including the elderly, young people and those with a disability,” the nomination said.
