TRC to upgrade Greenmount Tip

In the 2021/22 Budget, Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is set to spend $190,000 on the design of Greenmount Waste Management Facility.

An improved Greenmount Waste Management Facility should be operational by mid-2024.

Greenmount Waste Management Facility is located to the north of the town of Greenmount on Falknau Road between Greenmount Eton Vale Road and the New England
Highway.

TRC Water and Waste Portfolio Leader Councillor Nancy Sommerfield said the 2021/22 Budget places a significant focus on waste infrastructure by investing $6.2 million in waste capital projects.

“We’ve invested $190,000 to continue the design phase of
the new Greenmount Waste Management Facility.

“This upgrade project will replace the existing landfill with a Tier 2 Waste Management facility based on the design of the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility at O’Mara Road,” Cr Sommerfield said.

The project is currently in its early stages and is expected to be operational by mid-2024.

Cr Sommerfield said a Tier 2 site is significantly sized with capacity to service a large portion of the community.

“The new Greenmount facility will be similar to the new Kleinton Waste Management Facility, the Region’s first Tier 2 facility, which opened in late 2020,” she said.
