Upgrade for bridge at Brookstead

The Federal Government is spending $2.55 million to upgrade a bridge on Melrose Road at Brookstead.

The project will see the replacement of a one lane timber bridge on Melrose Road, with a two-lane concrete bridge.

Melrose Road crosses the north branch of the Condamine River about 11km north of the Brookstead township, between Pampas Horrane Road and Brookstead Norwin Road.

Federal member for Groom Garth Hamilton said this funding will improve local roads and keep the community connected.

“Improving our bridges in the Toowoomba Region means safer driving for all of us, as well as faster and more efficient freight for our businesses to both receive and send produce and goods,” Mr Hamilton said.

“This project will create local jobs in the Toowoomba Region and improve safety for freight drivers and all motorists in our community.”

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said that with 85 per cent of projects under the Bridges Renewal Program located in regional areas, this funding will further improve regional roads and keep regional communities connected.

In the 2022-23 Budget the Coalition Government allocated an additional $40 million to the Bridges Renewal Program over the next four years, taking the total funding commitment to nearly $900 million.

Since the Bridges Renewal Program commenced in 2015-16 it has supported 730 projects, of which 495 projects have been completed.
