Eight Mile Intersection Upgrade
The Department of Transport and Main Roads advises that upgrade work is progressing steadily at the Eight Mile Intersection of Cunningham Highway and New England Highway.
Work has started in the median of the Cunningham Highway to construct the centre pier of the overpass.
Additional traffic barriers have been installed to protect road workers as they clear the median area and erect a large piling rig. The piling rig will be used to drive piles at least 18 metres deep into the ground.
These piles will be part of the foundations for the centre pier of the overpass.
When complete, the overpass will be single lane for traffic travelling from Toowoomba to Warwick on the New England Highway and will include a 66-metre-long bridge.
The reduced southbound merging lane remains in place. Motorists should continue to carefully follow the temporary traffic management signs, including digital message signs, at the intersection to protect the safety of motorists and road workers.
Works at the intersection will be carried out between 6.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday with a reduced speed limit of 40km/h in place during these hours. Intermittent Saturday works may be carried out between 6.00am and 2.00pm, weather and construction conditions permitting.
