Fire destroys abandoned house and shed in Oakey

Four Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews and one support vehicle attended a fire which completely destroyed an unoccupied house and shed on the corner of Racecourse and Janetzki Roads at about 3.50am on Tuesday.

A pile of debris is all that remains of an Oakey house and shed destroyed by fire on Tuesday morning.

A crew from Queensland Ambulance Service and an Oakey Police team were also called to the scene, but no one required treatment.

A spokesperson for QFES said the house and shed were well alight when crews arrived on scene.

“The house was already burnt down to the stumps when crews arrived,” the spokesperson said.

“The fire was fully dampened down by about 5.50am.

“There was no requirement for the fire investigator to attend the scene.”

Oakey Police Senior Constable Mick Hannant said it is believed that the property had been unoccupied for about 20 years.

He said the owners were in the process of having the building demolished when the fire occurred.

Constable Hannant said the incident is not considered suspicious.
