Flooding and road closures following rain

Sustained rainfall has swept Clifton and the wider Darling Downs, with over 100mm falling yesterday alone causing flooding and road closures.


Rising water levels at Kings Creek caused Felton Clifton road to be closed between Clifton and Nobby overnight.

Clifton Post Office recorded 112mm of rain yesterday, higher than the mean November rainfall of 75.1mm.

A weather station at Felton listed on Weather Underground recorded a staggering 160.3mm of rain yesterday, 30 November.

Clifton Airfield received 122.17mm of rain yesterday, bringing a November total of 306.07mm.

As of 8am today, Kings Creek at Aides Bridge is at a height of 4.59m, below the major flood level of 5m.  It peaked at 5.58m at 11pm and midnight last night.

As of 9am today, Hodgson Creek at Felton is at a height of 2.58m, above the major flood level of 2.5m. It peaked at 2.7m at midnight and is currently falling.

As of 5:40am today, the Condamine River is still rising at Pratten, sitting at 6.35m, below the major flood level of 7m. It is 1.97m above the bridge.

As of 10:30am today, Canal Creek at Leyburn is falling, with the current height of 3.83m below the major flood level of 4m and 3.16 above the crossing. It peaked at 4.39m at 1:35am this morning.

As of 10:53am today, the Condamine River at Warwick is rising, with the current height of 6.16m surpassing the moderate level of 6m and below the major level of 7m. It is currently 0.84m below the bridge.

An emergency alert was issued for Leyburn residents at 11:45pm last night. Leyburn State School has been closed today.

Mount Molar Road - near intersection with Gillam Road, Mount Molar. Road closed to all traffic, all directions. Use alternative route.

Clifton Pittsworth Road - near intersection with Millbrook Back Plains Road and Hinz Road, Back Plains. Road closed to all traffic, all directions. Use alternative route.

Greenmount Etonvale Road - near Greenmount. Road closed to all traffic, all directions. Use alternative route.

Karara Road - Hodgson Creek Bridge, Cambooya. Road closed to all traffic, all directions. Long delays expected. Do not drive in flood waters.

Oleary Road - near intersection with Clifton Leyburn Road, Ellangowan. Road closed to all traffic, both directions. Delays expected. Use alternative route.

Clifton Road - at Felton and North Branch. Road closed to all traffic, all directions.

On many highways and roads around the area, many potholes have formed. Drivers should proceed with caution. 

Drivers should be wary of potholes on Gatton Clifton Road between Clifton and the New England Highway and on the New England Highway between Allora and Warwick. Felton Clifton Road was closed overnight at Kings Creek Bridge, Kings Creek.
