Investigations continue into crash

Oakey Police continue to investigate the cause of a single vehicle crash on the Warrego Highway on Friday night (August 6) when a vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and smashed into two light poles.

Emergency services located the empty vehicle on the northern side of the Warrego Highway near Aubigny Road.

Oakey Police Senior Constable Paul Holgate said a member of the public alerted emergency services to a car which had crashed on the Warrego Highway near Aubigny Road.

He said the vehicle was empty when police, ambulance and an Oakey Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crew attended at 10.25pm.

The QFES team remained on site for 15 minutes to make the scene safe and to ensure Ergon Energy was aware of the damage to the light poles.

Senior Constable Holgate said preliminary inquiries indicated the Nissan X-Trail was travelling west on the Warrego Highway when it crossed onto the other side of the road.

“The driver narrowly missed hitting one light pole, collected a second and dragged it for about 20 metres before coming to rest at the base of a third pole,” he said.

Police located the driver of the vehicle at a Bowenville address.

The 53-years-old Bowenville man reportedly received a lift from the scene shortly after the crash.

The man was transported to the Toowoomba Hospital with minor injuries.

Senior Constable Holgate said investigations continue into the crash.

He said it was lucky for both the man and fellow motorists that no one was seriously injured or killed.

He urged drivers to take due care and attention at all times.
