Wattles Reserves make TRL Grand Final

Wattles Reserve Grade side was too good for Valleys in their Preliminary Final match on Sunday, winning 21-6 and booking in for the 2021 Toowoomba Rugby League Clive Berghofer Land Sales Reserve Grade Grand Final against Gatton.

The Wattles Warriors Reserves side were pumped after their comfortable Preliminary Final victory on Sunday.

Captain/Coaches of the near all achieving Wattles ‘South East Engineering Services Pty Ltd’ Reserve Grade side Nick Morris and Garth Lonergan could not praise their line-up enough after the victory.

The will line up against minor premiers the Gatton Hawks who have overcome the inconvenience of COVID-19 to qualify first for the reserve grade season decider.

The Hawks finished the season at the head of the ladder with Wattles chiming in at fourth place.

They are yet to overcome Gatton this season, losing their two previous clashes.

But the Warriors’ confidence is on a high, and it will have to be as they look towards Wattles’ sixteenth premiership in all grades.

Along with experience and a wealth of youth and ability, the Warriors inbuilt strength is their rock-solid defence, Coach Lonergan commending his team for the way they have held out points especially in the second round of the competition.

Wattles 21 (Joe Morris 2, Dale McAntee tries; Tom Morris 4 goals; Dale McAntee field goal) defeated Valleys 6 (Josh Hancock try; Josh Hancock goal).

Wattles were no strangers to the podium during the TRL Annual Presentation Night, coming away with many awards on the evening.

Tom Morris had his hands full of awards, taking home the Frank Purcell Trophy and the Reserve Grade Best & Fairest Player of the Year awards.

A Grade star Matt Duggan won TRL Player of the Year, Travis Burns won Coach of the Year and Dale Perkins won Most Respected Representative Player.

Additionally, Duggan, Ty Gardner and Joe Mua were all named in the TRL Team of the Year.
