Wattles Under 16s ready for grand final
After a tough preliminary final in which the Wattles Under 16 side overcame the Stanthorpe Gremlins, Wattles will play in the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League grand final this weekend.
Wattles have played the Gremlins twice this season prior to the preliminaries and lost both times, but the boys worked together as a team to prevail 18-6 on Saturday..
It was a hard fought game in which defence was key, and neither side showed weakness.
The teams went to the sheds at half time with the scoreboard at 6-all.
The second half saw the Warriors cross the line a further two times to see them through to the grand final this Saturday.
In the grand final, Wattles will play the Warwick side, Collegians Dragons.
Due to Covid-19 shutting the league down, there was no junior football played last season, so there was no finals series.
However, interestingly, two years ago, this same team played in the grand finals as Under 14s against the Collegians Dragons.
As Under 16s, the boys are looking forward to the rematch this Saturday at Suburbs Hornets home ground at Warwick.
Last Saturday, Wattles Junior Rugby League also featured in the Under 13s preliminary final against Collegians Dragons on the Dragons’ home ground.
The match saw the Warriors fighting to the end, but they went down 16–10.
The Under 13 team is coached by Matt Deehan.
