34 years of service
On Monday the 27th of April, George Gall was recognised by the Clifton Auxiliary Fire Brigade for 34 years of service.
George Gall wasn’t wanting or looking for recognition.
“I wasn’t expecting it, it made me feel good,” the retired Auxiliary firefighter said.
But on Monday the 27th of April, two years after he was retired at 65 like all Auxiliary firefighters, George Gall was recognised by this old fire station for the years of service.
When asked why he stuck around for all those years George’s answer was simple.
“I enjoyed it, enjoyment of it, the people I was working with.”
It’s no easy feat, 34 years in the ‘auxies’ - “Sometimes you’d be sitting down for dinner and nah, you gotta go.” George said.
But it was the fact that it was his community, that proved the toughest part of the job for George.
“The worst thing was not knowing who you might know.”
George told the Clifton Courier if he hadn’t been retired at 65, he’d still be out there with them.
