A glimpse into the life of Pittsworth’s boxing superstar

Almost thirty men gathered at St Peter’s Lutheran Church on Saturday April 13 to enjoy a morning of food, fellowship and faith, with local boxing star Jackson Griffiths, known professionally as Stoneleigh, as the guest speaker.

After their bellies were full, the men listened to Stoneleigh share about how his boxing career started, and where it has led him over the last four years.

He said he would be forever grateful to his parents and coaches who have helped him make it this far in his career.

Stoneleigh spoke about his faith and the impact it has on his mindset in the lead up to a fight.

He thanked Specific Ministry Pastor Charlie Uebergang for his spiritual care of him, and praying over him before each fight.

Stoneleigh said that boxing can be a lonely sport, but he is fortunate to have mates who will get involved in his training, so he doesn’t have to do it alone.

“Success comes down to how hard you train, and how bad you want to win,” he said.

Pastor Charlie thanked Stoneleigh for sharing part of his story.

“As you grow as a professional boxer, might you also grow stronger in your faith,” Pastor Charlie said.

Stoneleigh is set to contest the WBC Australasian Title here in Pittsworth on June 14 against Kumar.

Tickets will go on sale soon.

The men had an opportunity to ask questions, and the morning came to a conclusion just after 9am.
