After more than six decades of service community farewells Victoria Hill QCWA
Last Friday, the 5th of June, at Victoria Hill Hall, remaining members of the local QCWA and the local community came together to farewell the Victoria Hill QCWA after 65 years.
The Victoria Hill Hall stands sleepily on its little rise, nestled amongst the properties and paddocks of Victoria Hill.
On Friday morning however, the hall was full of life.
QCWA members came from Killarney, Clifton, and Allora to see off their QCWA Sisters.
Alongside family, friends, current and former members, they came together to farewell QCWA Victoria Hill on its 65th Birthday.
Foundation member Annette Frizzell spoke to The Clifton Courier after a final morning tea, filled with gratitude, and fond memories.
“Yeah, very sad,” she said.
“Bittersweet, but its just a sign of the times, and we can’t do anything about it.”
Low membership and rising overheads for the cost of the hall led the branch to close down.
But Annette was all praise for the time and the people in the branch, who, by the sound of things, really became a little family.
“They’ve been a wonderful 65 years for me, just absolutely wonderful,” Annette said.
The children of members were there, reminiscing childhoods and Christmases and the famous St. Paddy’s Day at Victoria Hill Hall, put on by their mums in the QCWA.
There were many notes of thanks to Shirley Erhardt, who had led the branch in various capacities over her 60 years involved.
She was awarded her 60 year certificate at the closing.
