Allora Police Report

Operation Victor Mistletoe - Police across Queensland will be focused on a tasked, high visibility policing operation to drive down the number of fatal and serious injury traffic crashes over this Christmas and holiday season.

Sgt Damian Grace and Senior Constable Ben Ogden of Allora Police sporting their new, operational personal protection vests. As unnecessary as it may seem to some, it is now a Qld Police requirement that Officers wear these at all times and will become a common sight, both in Allora and across the state. A sign of these changing times?

Operation Victor Mistletoe was launched with the focus on drink driving, speeding, seat belt, fatigue and distraction offences which will be the focus for officers this Christmas - New Year period. The operation will run until January 25, 2024.

The current statistics from the Queensland Police Service Southern Region which includes the Darling Downs, South West and Ipswich areas are on track to be one of the worst on record with 54 lives lost on our roads to date. This is down from 57 last year but still well above the six-year average of 48.

Poor Driver Behaviour - Allora Police are disappointed to report that they have already experienced several incidents of poor driver behaviour over these past couple of weeks.

On Friday December 1 it was reported to Police, that a rider of a Yamaha motorcycle was standing on the seat and “wheel-standing” whilst riding through the town’s main street (Herbert St) at 7.50am in the morning. The rider was then reported for the same actions again, later that afternoon when he rode back through the town centre. Through the assistance of several local businesses, Allora Police have identified the rider causing the issue of two (2) on the spot infringement notices totalling $722.

Licence Suspended and Heavy Fine - On Friday December 8, Allora Police were performing their tasked patrols along the Warwick Allora Road when they observed a vehicle being driven south at a dangerous speed approaching the Gregory Street intersection at Hendon. Police detecting the speed of the vehicle at 157km/h through use of mobile radar device.  The vehicle was intercepted, with the Warwick driver offering no reason as to why he was travelling at such a ridiculous speed, other than the fact he was returning home.  He was issued with an on the spot infringement notice for $1780.  Given the driver’s speed in excess of 40km/h over the limit, additionally means an automatic drivers licence suspension for the next 6 months. Further roadside inquires made by Police, then determined the vehicle being used was unregistered and therefore uninsured. Two further infringement notices were issued totalling another $990... (all up $2770).

Both incidents highlighted, are disappointing to see; quite apparent that the drivers involved have no consideration for themselves or other road users.  We want everyone to get to their destinations safely.

Enjoy the Festive Season - Allora Officers and their families, would like to wish the local town, community and their families & friends a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year period. Plan ahead - Have a plan B and don’t let your mates get behind the wheel drunk.
