A good crowd turned out at the Masonic Hall on Friday evening for the official launch of Pittsworth Art Group’s 2023 Spring Exhibition.

Founding member Meg Eising was given the honour of welcoming everyone to the new gallery, the group having shifted across the road in May.

“This is our 23rd annual exhibition and it just so happens we have 23 artists showing their wares,” Mrs Eising said.

She introduced Cr Bill Cahill to declare the exhibition open.

In acknowledging the land’s traditional custodians, Cr Cahill commented on how visual arts had been such a strong and vital connection with country and songlines for indigenous people.

“Artists are legacy leavers,” he said.

“I want to encourage you as a group of local artists to keep doing what you do.

“Art has a significant impact on people and has done throughout history.”

With so many friends, family and well-wishers there on Friday evening, the social benefits and fellowship engendered by the art group were on display as much as their artworks.

The exhibition features all new paintings as well as photography, pottery, ceramics, jewellery and stationery, all creations by local artisans.

The exhibition is open five days a week until October 14, Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 1pm, at 45 Short Street.
