Back to Peranga

Peranga had its day in the sun on Saturday when old faces and new converged on the town for the biennial “Another Day in the Park” festival.

There were goats, a classic vehicle show and shine, and laser skirmish, while local artists Whiskey Business kept everyone entertained at Windmill Park on a big day for the village.

Peranga’s Hall, neighbouring the Bowls Club, was packed with local schools, businesses, and travelling stallholders peddling their wares on a cloudy and coldish day in the High Country.

Major sponsor Farm Angels was represented on the day by CEO Jason Law.

The charity, formerly known as Drought Angels, assists farmers in need across Australia and re-branded in June last year to recognise the wider nature of its work.

Many organisations around the Downs have provided support to Farm Angels since their inception in 2014, including the Oakey Show Society, Oakey QCWA branch, Oakey State School and Cornetts Supa IGA Oakey to name just a few!

Mr Law brought with him a ten-pack of beer donated by Australian actor Travis Fimmel’s Travla beer company.

Farm Angels’ visit was just one component of a busy day in the village, which is normally very quiet (with the notable exception of the thriving bowls club).

An older attendee strayed  towards a plaque in the park recognising the pioneering families of the Peranga-Evergreen district, many of whom still live in the wider region to this day.

Classic vehicles were plentiful - families walked towards and around a line-up of cars including a Jaguar Mark II, a Morris Eight, and a 1971 Ford Fairlane.

As well as the cars, there were two trucks and a line-up of miniature steam engines crafted by local Lloyd Jensen.

Event co-ordinator and Peranga character Gary Deakin said he was satisfied with the turnout, despite it being down on recent years.

Mr Deakin said he is looking to step back and let the next generation of locals put their spin on the event.
