‘Between Black and White’
A group of local artists, now known as Back Road Artists, will have an exhibition, Between Black and White, running throughout September at the art space in the Clifton Library.
Back Road Artists cover the area from Clifton to Wyreema, including the towns of Nobby, Greenmount and Cambooya and the outlying areas in between.
The exhibit includes 38 pieces by 15 local artists.
Kerry Chant, who has been involved in previous art exhibitions held at the Clifton Library, has been instrumental in organising the new group.
“We’re just gathering people together to promote regional art,” she said.
The timing of this exhibition in September was done intentionally to coincide with the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, forming part of an art trail that includes Pittsworth and other towns.
Ms Chant said librarian Bernie Trimingham suggested it would be a good idea for Clifton to be involved in the art trail.
Greenmount’s Karina Cheetham, who is involved with the group, said the exhibition is an opportunity to promote local artists.
“There are so many talented people in our community,” she said.
“We have a good group of experienced artists.”
Back Road Artists aims to encourage, support and strengthen one another rather than judging or critiquing.
“We’re looking to encourage people to have a go,” Ms Cheetham said.

The group is open to people from all backgrounds and walks of life.
There is a variety of art types as well, from painting and drawing to photography and wood engraving.
Many of the artworks are available for sale.
The exhibition is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from yesterday until 29 September.
It is open during the library’s opening hours, 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm.
