Big roll up for Rodeo
In the wake of the cancellation of the 2024 Oakey Rodeo, Goombungee-Haden Rodeo showed there’s still a large appetite for the ring in the local district.
A large crowd numbering in the hundreds attended the event.
Oakey Police assisted Goombungee Police on the night and reported that behaviour was generally positive.
Local Linkyn Harrison took out the 7 years - under 12 years Mini Bulls with a score of 61 points, while Oakey’s Kate Patch took out the ladies barrel race, her third consecutive win on the rodeo circuit.
A highlight of the night was the Novice Bull Ride with a tie for 1st between Nash Mellers and Jesse Gallagher on 71 points
No times were recorded in the Open Bullride with 8 competitors all bucked off.
Goombungee-Haden Show Society’s Kylie Welke said a wide variety of events was able to be held thanks to strong entry lists.
“It was great to see entries in the Bareback and Saddle Bronc, with competitor Sam Fuller taking out 4th in each event,” she said.
Across the day, 316 competitors took part.
