Birds are a hot subject at Cambooya

Despite one of the hottest days so far this year, on Sunday afternoon 23 November, 39 people flocked to the Cambooya Hall to attend Cambooya Landcare’s special event Birdlife Presentation.

Glenn Knight, Cambooya Landcare Secretary said Scot McPhie, ornithologist and Project Co-ordinator of BirdLife Australia’s Birds on Farms project, gave an engaging presentation about the Birds on Farms project as well as displaying detailed lists of birds sighted from surveys in the Cambooya Landcare area.

“We are very privileged to be able to bring someone of Scot’s bird knowledge and enthusiasm to a Cambooya audience.

“I particularly enjoyed Scot’s description of the groups of birds and their reliance on different layers of vegetation habitat.

“The many short movies of birds going about their business was a highlight,” Mr Kngiht said.

Lucky prize draw winners went home with bird friendly trees to plant and there were giveaways for attendees including bird books, vegetation management guide and Weeds of Southern Queensland.

Following the formal presentation, much discussion and networking continued over hot and cold drinks, delicious home-made slices, salad and sausage sizzle prepared by Cambooya Landcare members.

The Cambooya Landcare Annual General Meeting preceded the Birdlife Presentation.

The existing committee will continue in their roles.
