Chief of People & Mission at Southern Cross Care Queensland Michael Hart, acting as master of ceremonies, began proceedings with a brief outline of the Homestead’s history and background before handing over to Majella Baker, who has had an unbelievable 38 years service at the Homestead.

Majella presented awards to several current staff members before commenting on the sad fact that many Aged Care facilities in small towns have been forced to close while the Homestead facility continues to operate.

“We have supported families across generations here at the Homestead and the importance of people going into care in their own community cannot be underestimated,” Ms Baker said.

“Southern Cross Care began here in 1983 and we aim to let clients live their best lives while here.”

Long term Allora resident Averil Rae Masters moved into the Homestead only a year ago and was asked to cut the celebratory cake.

Averil will celebrate her 98th birthday soon after spending 97 years at the one Allora address.

The celebrations continued as a beautiful array of food was enjoyed by all.
