Bus fares slashed for Westbrook residents
From 5 August, the cost of a bus trip from Westbrook into Toowoomba will be reduced to 50 cents.
Last weekend, Queensland Premier Steven Miles announced all Translink public transport services will be reduced for a six-month period.
Customers will still need to purchase a paper ticket in order to access the reduced fare.
The Queensland Government claims public transport usage remains about 13 per cent below pre-Covid levels and that the measure is due to have a disinflationary effect, helping to lower both transport CPI and inflation in Queensland through the second half of the year.
Concession holders, currently receiving 50 per cent off their fare, will also receive 50 cent fares as it is cheaper than the current concession rate.
Premier Miles said he expects this will save Queenslanders thousands of dollars over six months, and encourage more people to catch public transport.
“Encouraging more Queenslanders to jump on a bus or train to get to work or school will help bust congestion.”
The Route 905 bus has several stops in Westbrook including at Main Street, Barwick Street, Ferguson Road, Shoesmith Road and Boundary Street.
The route travels to and from Toowoomba Bus Station via multiple stops in Toowoomba City, Newtown, Harristown, Kearneys Spring, Darling Heights and Drayton.
The cost to travel on a single trip from Westbrook into Toowoomba or vice-versa is usually $2.40.
There are no general public bus services that visit Wyreema, Cambooya, Hodgson Vale, Greenmount and surrounding areas.
