Starting with a sumptuous afternoon tea,  attendees had a chance to talk to John  before he began his recitals.

John’s extensive travels have inspired him to write books and poetry.

He won the inaugural Cargo Cup at the Banjo Patterson Australian Poetry Festival.

The audience was particularly moved by his portrayal of Australians at Gallipoli and Kokoda, amongst other insights into bush life.

Local identity Graham Gillam also stepped up to the stage with some hilarious recitals, and others written with wonderful imagery by his mother.

The event was well attended with some visitors coming from as far away as Brisbane.

Lucky door prizes were plentiful with four meat trays and two tea trays.

Publicity Officer Jo Bailey said the Clifton Historical Society would like to thank Allora Butchery and John and Lynda Bishop for their contributions to the meat trays and lucky door prizes.
