Cambooya Hall has a History Wall

The Cambooya Public Hall Committee has created a valuable asset for the local community with the creation of a “History Wall” in the recently refurbished facility.

The wall already features a varied range of photographs that relate to Cambooya and the local district in years gone by.

Residents are being offered the opportunity to be part of the move to preserve local history.

Photographs or any other historic matter such as old newspaper clippings, maps, postcards, old signs or plaques, or medals and pins can be left with the hall committee.

Members of the committee will frame or appropriately hang these donated items on the history wall.

Any donations of frames would also be welcome.

For further details on the history wall, contact committee member Rachel Barron on 0415 357 647.

The Cambooya Public Hall has taken on a new lease of life following the receipt of major grant funds which have enabled the committee to undertake some significant upgrades.

Last September, the Hall Committee received a grant of $91,610.25 from the Queensland Community Gambling Benefit Fund for the upgrade.

The improvements have brought a fresh look and feel to the facilities.

The original male toilets had one old urinal and one toilet pedestal  but now it has two small, sensor urinals and a toilet.

The female rest room originally had two toilets and now there are three toilets.

There is now an added unisex, wheelchair friendly separate toilet with baby change table.

In addition, there is a nice area with sink to ceiling mirror and two basins for hand washing.

The lights and exhaust fans for the whole toilet area come on automatically through infra-red heat, so there is no need to turn on or off any lights.

They will stay on for about 20 minutes after last person leaves the room.

Another nice feature is tan old barn door that was made out of the original door that patrons entered to go into the toilets from the main hall area.

The door frame has been widened to now fit a wheelchair through and a new door has been added.

Elsewhere in the hall, air-conditioning has been installed to service the Supper Room and Masonic Room.

Extra wall fans have been put in the main hall area.

Outdoor lighting and an upgraded  switchboard have also been installed.

The next project the Committee is targeting is the kitchen.

The Committee has some money remaining from the refurbishment work and with the help of Toowoomba Regional Council providing the trades for the planned kitchen renovations the extra work should be completed in the next few months.
