Cecil Plains State School principal Tracy Kirby said the day was a tremendous success.

“We were a bit concerned about the bushfires, but it all went wonderfully,” Mrs Kirby said.

In an impressive feat for a small town, which had a population of 380 people at the last census, 300 people came through the gates.

Cecil Plains old boy Pat Weir, the Member for Condamine, and James Lister, the local Member for Southern Downs, were guests and spoke.

Past students came together and sang the old school song, which new principal Mrs Kirby is planning on resurrecting.

The local Lions Club volunteered, students ran stalls and the P&C ran a bar.

Contents of a time capsule from the 100-year anniversary celebrations in 1998 were on display.

These included letters from students to themselves, a school budget, and a message from the principal.

Students left behind a legacy paver.

A time capsule was sealed for the 150-year anniversary celebrations in 2048.
