Celebrate 150 years of Pittsworth
The Pittsworth community is invited to come together on Saturday, 12 September, for a vibrant celebration of 150 years of local history, connection and country spirit. Here’s a glimpse of what the organising committee has planned for the occasion.
From heritage displays and family-friendly activities to a steam train experience and street parade, the Pittsworth Sesquicentennial Celebration promises a memorable day for residents and visitors alike.
Centenary Park and the Town Hall precinct will come alive with entertainment, historical exhibits, photo displays, community show-cases, youth art, storytelling, merchandise and a special time capsule ceremony.
A highlight of the celebration will be the heritage steam train, with special rail experiences helping reconnect the town with its railway story and adding to the sense of occasion for this once-in-a-generation event.
Festivities begin at 9am with entertainment in Centenary Park and displays at the Town Hall.
The arrival of the steam train at 9.30am, the official time capsule ceremony at 10am and the street parade at 11am, will follow.
From midday onwards, the celebration continues with park activities, static vehicle displays and more opportunities to explore the stories, people and places that have shaped Pittsworth across the past 150 years.
Organisers are encouraging local families, schools, clubs, businesses and former residents to be part of the day and help celebrate the proud past and bright future of Pittsworth.
Whether you are attending for the nostalgia, the community spirit, the heritage attractions or simply a great day out, this milestone event is set to showcase the very best of the Heart of the Darling Downs.

What Memories Do You Have of Pittsworth?
In the months ahead, we’d love you to share the stories, events, and achievements that have left a lasting impression and contributed to Pittsworth’s rich history and community spirit.
Here’s one from Pittsworth icon Penny McKinlay:
Chas A. Thomas ran a fantastic business where Clover Country is now.
He sold men and women’s apparel and was most successful.
He loved art and even built an art gallery in the home he bought on the top of Copp’s Hill where Ashley and Karen Naumann now live.
So Chas thought he could bring his love of art to Pittsworth and he did.
He got in touch with Raoul Mellish, the curator of the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane and asked could an exhibition of well known artworks be brought to Pittsworth for a country exhibition.
And so it was arranged.
He hired the Town Hall, big stands all covered with fine new hessian were placed throughout the hall.
On these, all the fine artworks were displayed.
Then he had to do something with us.
So he asked that we all dressed as formally as we could and come along to the Town Hall at 7.30pm.
Here, wine and cheese were served, and Mr Mellish gave basic lectures on art and the painting exhibited.
We had a wonderful night, when art and high class came to Pittsworth, thanks to the ingenuity of one special citizen.
