Clifton Landcare Group Chairman’s Report 2025
Clifton Landcare Group (CLG) Chairman Clive Strong delivered his Chairman’s Report at the annual general meeting held on Monday, 20 October.

CLG started the year with a display at the Clifton Show in February.
We were located in the main pavilion.
We had the pig trap set up as with the other CLG equipment.
We had the support of Pursehouse Rural and Kimberly from Condamine Headwaters Landcare with native plants for sale.
The new concept of sponsoring the Battle of the Brains for local primary schools went well with members from CLG marking the questions. (quite entertaining I heard).
There was prize money of $50 for successful students.
CLG will be sponsoring this event in 2026 with hopefully more schools involved.
CLG had a meeting early in the year with TRC regarding a fire break and burning of surrounding areas of the Bulloak Jewel Butterfly site.
So far nothing has come of these plans and will most likely take place next year.
CLG made a substantial purchase of a Razorback mower in July.
It is designed to handle rough terrain and shrubbery.
The main purpose of this equipment will be at the Bulloak Jewel Butterfly site where we will use it to reduce fire fuel loads around the site.
The mower is also available for member use.
On Sunday the 17 August Clifton Scouts along with some CLG members had a weeding morning at the Bulloak Jewel Butterfly site removing tree pear, harissa cactus and lantana.
It was an opportunity to give the new Razorback a work out.
The morning finished up with a barbecue cooked by the scouts for all that attended.
A very successful morning.
Thanks to the scouts and the CLG members who were involved in this event.
We are still waiting for the release of the documentary filmed at the Bulloak Jewel Butterfly site.
The pig traps have been in use during the year with several hundreds of pigs caught.
It is encouraging to know that CLG is making an impact on these feral pests though currently one of the control panels has been sent to the manufacturers in the U.S. for repair.
The Quik Spray unit has been in use in the district as well.
There have been a number of events attended throughout the year by CLG members.
The Condamine Catchment Management Association meetings with various guest speakers, Carbon farming information workshop at the Hermitage Research Station and Regen Ag events hosted by Millmerran Landcare.
Macintyre AG hosted a very useful field day on site at Yelarbon with Dr Christine Jones, a soil ecologist speaking about soil health and the benefit of using multi species pasture cropping.
In 2026 we will have a stand at the Clifton Show and sponsor the Battle of the Brains.
Mid-March we are planning a field day also at the showgrounds to display CLG equipment and hopefully include some guest speakers to make the event as informative as possible.
We are very open to suggestions to anything we could include in this
event.
There has been no remuneration paid to CLG office holders in 2025.
Membership is up to date for insurance purposes.
A special thank you to the CLG office holders.
Louise Skidmore as Treasurer and her tireless work submitting grants throughout the year.
To Steph Neilson for her secretary duties and Chris Bazley as Deputy Chair.
I feel that we have had a successful year with many accomplishments.
Thank you to all our members for your support and attendance at monthly meetings.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, 17 November, at 7.30pm at the Clifton Library, where everyone is always welcome.
