Clifton’s Craft and Brunches ANZAC Window
A member of Clifton’s newest community initiative has dedicated a window front on King Street to commemorate the fallen.
Young Leviticus, 18, one of the clients of King Street based Forever Dedicated Support Services (FDSS), was pondering on the meaning of ANZAC Day when he had an idea.
“While spending time in the office, Leviticus began a conversation with his carer about the meaning of ANZAC Day.
He was curious and wanted to understand why it is such an important part of our history.
He asked if there was a way he could help remember and honour the ANZACs through a window display.” Manager Ryanda Russell said.
The shopfront is now adorned with the ANZAC theme ‘We will remember them’ surrounded by poppies, painted by Leviticus.
“While it may seem like a small gesture to some, it holds great significance for us.” Ryanda said.
For Leviticus, who faces his own challenges, this was a huge achievement, not only in learning and understanding the importance of ANZAC Day, but also in choosing to show respect in his own way.
FDSS is an NDIS provider offering a range of supports, including assistance with accessing the community, daily living support, house and yard maintenance, and Supported Independent Living (SIL).
Craft and Brunches was started this month.
It’s a creative group, meant for casual connecting and non-serious creativity.
“Our group is built on a simple idea: that everyone deserves a place where they feel welcome, comfortable, and accepted.” Ryanda said.
“We want the community to know that our doors are open to anyone who would like to come along.
“Whether you feel like joining in, having a chat, or simply sitting quietly with a cuppa, you are more than welcome here.”
The group very much seeks to empower people in the way its empowered Leviticus; allowing them to express themselves in a safe, supportive environment.
“It reflects what our group is all about: providing opportunities for people to grow, express themselves, and feel proud of what they can achieve,” Ryanda said.
Craft and Brunches is on every second Thursday at 10am, the next on the 1st of May at the FDSS’ office on King Street.
