Clifton’s Newest Landmark
Locals on Fogarty Road have established Hoot Corner as Clifton’s newest landmark.

Russell Free initially started putting owls on his bend of Fogarty Road to stop people from driving into it.
After one night, someone did.
Since, however, more owls have started turning up along the fence post and a street sign lingers above the owls, it reads “Hoot Cnr.”
The sign was made by Russell’s neighbour, Jeremy Muller, but the parliament of owls has gathered naturally.
Louise, Russell’s partner, suspects its the neighbours joining in.
Hoot Cnr is also a listed landmark on Google Maps.
If you look around Mt. Molar, along Fogarty Road, you’ll see a little icon for a landmark.
Not only that, but the newly established landmark, already has four reviews, and over 400,000 hits, according to Russell.
Three of the reviews give a rave, five stars.
Kevin Krieger, however, who is listed as a local guide by Google, was obviously expecting a little bit more.
Kevin left a two star review saying: “Not much they’re just what’s in the photo.”
Despite Kevin’s disappointment, the DIY project of the Mt. Molar locals is becoming one of Clifton’s most charming attractions.
It very much encapsulates the spirit of Clifton in the way it’s come about.
Initially Russell put the owls out there for a fairly practical reason - to distract people so they would slow down on the bend.
Then for no reason other than a laugh, Owl Cnr started to grow. It’s humourous and wholesome, without taking itself too seriously. Even the way in which its ended up on Google maps, is very Clifton. You can see Owl Cnr on the bend in Fogarty Road, Mt. Molar.
Mind the fence.
