Community effort at Nobby Rec Reserve
Community action by Nobby residents has begun the process of rescuing the village’s historic recreation reserve.

The ten-acre reserve on Comerford Street was set upon by 30 willing local volunteers for a much-needed overhaul.
Buzzing chainsaws manicured mature trees into oases of shade.
Brooms and pressure cleaners swept away cobwebs and mouse droppings from the tired club house, showers and toilets.
Rubbish was removed and grass slashed.
The ancient tennis court took on the appearance of an archaeological dig as volunteers searched for the ant-bed court.
While sausages sizzled and citizens slurped soft drinks a lively band of
more than twenty children raced around on bikes, picnicked in the shade and played a boisterous game of cricket.
Established early in the village’s history, the grounds hosted various recreational activities such as tennis, Vigoro and foot races.
Cricket matches have also entertained locals for many decades.
An impressive trophy cabinet is testament to the talent and skills of the local teams.
Community stalwart, Mick Comerford, shares the community’s vision for change and a re-birthing of the recreation grounds to provide energetic sport, rest and relaxation for the wider community.
Community meetings will continue to gauge interest in various activities at the Comerford Street site.
Thanks to enthusiastic volunteers, sustenance and good cheer, the Nobby community is working towards rescuing this recreation ground and securing a valuable asset for the future.
The next public meeting is scheduled to be held at the Nobby Hall on 20th April at 7pm.
Members of the Nobby district community are being urged to attend and have their say.
