Community loses a stalwart
One of Clifton’s most prominent community members, Terry Davis, passed away overnight Sunday after a long battle with cancer.
Terry came to Clifton at the age of three and spent the rest of his life involved in the business and community affairs of the town and district.
He was held in high esteem which was reflected earlier this year when he was named Citizen of the Year at the district’s annual Australia Day Awards ceremony.
Terry and his brother John employed many local residents in their business, Davis Engineering, until it was forced to wind down thanks to cheap foreign imports.
Local organisations which gained great benefit from Terry’s participation included the Clifton Scout Group, Clifton Community Health Services, of which he was a board director for many years and the Clifton Local Ambulance Committee, where he served in several roles including president and secretary.
The Committee cancelled its meeting this week as a mark of respect.
The Clifton Courier will carry an obituary in a future issue.
