On Monday, 7th July, the girls learned hand embroidery stitches - running stitch, herringbone, blanket stitch, satin stitch, stem stitch, lazy daisy stitch, chain stitch, French knots, and stem stitch.

All of these were incorporated into a heart design.

On Wednesday, 9th July,  the girls learned how to use a sewing machine.

They had to put the needle into the machine, fill a bobbin and thread the machine, then practice straight stitching and zigzag.

They then sewed fabric to the sides of the embroidery, then the top and bottom, learning how to finish off each section.

They then did hems on the backing fabrics and attached the fabric to the cushion fronts, turning them inside out and inserting the cushions.
