The practice in participation had groups of students on tables with either a Councillor or Council staff member.

School Leaders were split up into tables of 7 students and given semi-hypothetical waste management problems to solve.

Cr Melissa Taylor told the students waste management is an ongoing challenge.

“What we do with waste affects the health of our community, the environment and (Council’s) bottom line.”

School leaders Justin, Charlie, Sophie and Chelsea were there from CSHS.

“It was exciting to meet with people who can make change as Clifton is a long way away from the centre of activity in the Region.” Justin said of the day.

Chelsea spoke about her goals this year, including being apart of the effort to fundraise for a ‘cuddle bed’  for the Clifton Community Health Centre.

The day was a great chance for school leaders from around the region to get some experience, and of course advice.

“..lead with influence rather than authority.” Mayor Geoff McDonald said.
