Dabblers on display
The second annual Art, Craft and Markets in the Pavilion hosted by Clifton Dabblers Incorporated on Saturday 4 November saw many visitors travel to the showgrounds to see a vast array of arts, crafts and market stalls on display.
The pavilion was packed with 42 stalls, which featured everything from painting and sketching to making jewellery using ring pulls, and Tunisian crochet.
Other stalls included forged tools, wood turning, silk painting, knitting, handmade items, wooden toys, original paintings and handmade jewellery.
Some of the more unusual hobbies on display included the construction of frog hotels - using solar lights and PVC piping to build a comfortable habitat for frogs.
There were also demonstrations, which included tai chi and spinning.
Outside of the traditional Dabbler pursuits, John Warner from Nobby had his vintage racing car on display.
Twelve of the stalls came from Dabblers members, with others travelling to Clifton from towns such as Pittsworth, Warwick and Toowoomba.
Around 250 to 300 people passed through the doors, not hampered by the wet conditions outdoors after some much needed rain overnight.
Clifton Dabblers Vice President Trish Wallen said the day was highly enjoyable.
“We had great fun talking to people from outside Dabblers,” Mrs Wallen said.
“Talking about how they got involved with their hobby and then got hooked on it.
“Talking to other crafters was the most enjoyable part of the weekend.”
Mrs Wallen said although the pavilion was very busy, especially after 10am, the Dabblers were a little disappointed with the turnout as it was not as many as last year.
She said besides the slightly lower than hoped for attendance, everything else went well.
“We were quite pleased with the quality of stall,” she said.
“It was hard work - a lot of effort went into it.”
