Dealer principal hitting highway after 54 years
Lindenberg is a name synonymous with Pittsworth thanks to the landmark business in the main street that bears that name and has done since the 1898.
It was Charles that started the business all those years ago but this month the focus is on another family member, Clive Lindenberg, who is retiring as Mitsubishi dealer principal, after joining the company “as a roustabout” 54 years ago.
There have been plenty of changes since.
“It was completely different in those days,” he said.
“People would walk in and say, ‘have you got a white one or a red one?... and off they’d go.
“There’s a bit more involved now, you can’t just sell a car today and deliver it tomorrow,” he said.
“With all the warranties and everything the customer is certainly more looked after now.”
He cites the Valiant Chargers as one of his favourite models through the years.
Does he still have one?
“No, wish I did!”
But he does have a couple of projects to work on once he settles into retirement - a 1993 Dodge utility and a restored 1928 Chev.
He and his wife Jenny will be taking a trip to London to visit one of their three daughters after his retirement on June 30.
Clive said he would miss dealing with customers, many of who he had been selling cars to through the decades and through the family generations.
Clive will continue to be a director but the principal role will be taken over by Mark Lindenberg.
The Lindenbergs will be celebrating with staff at a special dinner for Clive this Saturday night ahead of his official last day on June 30.
