The new hall has cost $10 million for a 12-months project forecast for completion by the end of February.

The building will feature a multi-purpose court, performance stage, kinesiology lab/gym, a kiosk and amenities.

It’s part of a school halls program which has involved a total expenditure of $760 million comprising of 54 projects to upgrade and build new halls and performing arts centres across Queensland.

Ten projects have been delivered so far, including down the road at Pittsworth State High School, where Ms Farmer had visited the previous day.

A further six are being delivered in early 2024, including at OSHS.

Twenty halls are planned to be delivered before the end of the year and the remaining 18 projects are at various stages of planning.

“It’s so exciting,” Ms Farmer said.

Oakey State High School leaders said they were excited at the potential uses for the new building

“(The new hall) is going to be used for dancing, community groups, sporting, gym and all of the school’s parades,” they said in a video.

It’s believed to be the first time in several years that the incumbent State Education Minister has made an official visit to Oakey.

Ms Farmer then made the trip to Warwick State High School where teachers said the new hall meant the school would be able to build community connections and host school musicals.

In total, $17.8 billion has been invested in Queensland education this year.
