Emu Creek 150th celebrated in style
Threatening skies didn’t deter fans of Emu Creek State School as they descended upon the iconic local institution to celebrate 150 years of education - as the skies opened up, hundreds of past students, staff and community members ignored the weather and joined with dignitaries to mark the special occasion.

The school’s sports oval was covered in food and recreational activities that attracted attention right from the start.
The official proceedings began with the unearthing and updating of a time capsule.
A highlight of the event was the formal naming of the Liz Donnelly Library in honour of the lady who, having been a student there, later gave more than 40 years service as a teacher aide.
Principal of Emu Creek State School Tania Schmidt said over the past 150 years, Emu Creek has stood strong, adapting, growing, and continuing to offer something truly special.
“We’ve been described by parents as transformational - a school where children are not just taught, but truly seen, supported, and celebrated,” Mrs Schmidt said.
“A place where every child feels they belong, where relationships flourish, and where a deep sense of care runs through everything we do.
“That is the greatness of Emu Creek - and that is why, after 150 years, we’re still thriving.”
“We see it every day in our classrooms, in our playgrounds, and in our community.
“The values that built this school - respect, perseverance, and community - still shape who we are.”
Mrs Schmidt thanked members of the 150th organising committee for all their hard work and Emu Creek staff, past and present.
Tours of the school proved popular and a roll call of past and present students revealed just how many were keen to return for the event.
