Russell is one of 37 winners from across Queensland, chosen from 459 submissions from 177 schools.

His work will be exhibited at the prestigious Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane from 27 April to 25 August 2024.

The annual awards program recognises and promotes excellence in senior visual art education at state and non-state schools.

Minister for Education Grace Grace said the quality of works this year was a testament to the exceptional artistic abilities of Queensland’s secondary school students.

“These awards celebrate not only the students themselves but also the importance of nurturing artistic talent in Queensland schools and celebrating our dedicated visual art teachers,” she said.

Fellow Pittsworth State High School student Erin Ziesemer received a commendation award.
