The rural fire service and the QFD responded to reports of a fire at 10am this morning.

A tree had fallen over the road, onto a powerline and caused a slow moving grassfire in the neighbouring property.

Four fire crews, police and Ergon Energy attended the scene.

The grassfire was quickly put out however the main concern for crews was the fallen powerline which posed significant risk to crews and locals.

The clean-up was delayed by the fallen powerline as crews needed Council permission before they could clear the road, leaving  locals stuck for over two and a half hours.

While the fire caused some excitement and frustration for locals trying to get home, in the end, because of the quick work of emergency crews, the only lasting damage was a bent paddock fence, and a 100 metre x 2 metre singed, black patch of grass.
