Farewell Gerard and Lavella
Gerard and Lavella Bowe were Clifton’s postmasters from 1992 to 2024, after which they stayed on as mail run contractors, and now, they’ve called time on after a long career in the postal service.

The couple was farewelled before the Tuesday mail run at the Clifton Post Office.
Lavella said that it was a emotional affair.
She and her husband Gerard had looked after the Clifton Post Office for 32 years.
The last two years they have spent as mail contractors.
Over that time all of their children worked in the Post Office.
But for Lavella it was the little interactions and the getting to know the community of Clifton through her role at the Post Office that Lavella cherished most.
“Oh, just seeing people...meeting people, having a little chat,” Lavella said.
However she says she won’t miss the early mornings.
Lavella will now turn her attention to looking after Gerard, who isn’t well, and their eleven greyhounds, six of which are racing animals.
