Mrs Myers was living in Orange, NSW at the time of her death, but had resided in Westbrook for many years and had represented Division One (Wellcamp, Charlton Glenvale and Westbrook) on the old Jondaryan Shire Council.

Cr Myers and husband Keith owned a stable on Westbrook-Wyreema Road and were heavily involved in the local community.

She was involved in the Westbrook Progress Association and helped it remain financially stable.

Oakey Historical Museum Secretary and Treasurer Fay Telford paid tribute to Cr Myers, describing her as a friend.

Mrs Myers and Mrs Telford worked together on the local Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) committee.

Cr Myers was close with other female representatives on councils including Toowoomba City Council Mayor Di Thorley and Mary Wagner.

Former Jondaryan Shire Councillor Roy Blackwell worked with Cr Myers during her first term.

“We had a good working relationship,” he said.

“Irene took her responsibilities as Councillor very seriously.

“She was just at home with the top end of town at the races, as she was with Mr and Mrs Average.”

She is survived by husband Keith and son Craig.
