Funding announced for local organisations
Four local organisations and events have received considerable grants from the most recent round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) which in total distributed nearly $20 million to more than 800 not-for profit community organisations across Queensland.
Over 200 of the recipients were awarded the maximum grant of $35,000.
The Southbrook Sports Club was just shy of this, having received a total of $34,880 to upgrade its cricket shed.

The project will restore the Club’s heritage shed, ensuring it is safe, structurally sound and fully functional for community and Club use for years to come.
The works will focus on two key areas: structural safety upgrades and concrete flooring installation.
Structural safety upgrades will involve accessing and reinforcing the shed’s roof, support beams, and foundation.
These measures will ensure the building is secure, compliant with safety standards, and weather-resistant, addressing long-standing issues related to age and wear.
Concrete flooring works will remove the existing uneven dirt floor and install a reinforced concrete slab across the entire interior.
This upgrade will significantly improve durability, accessibility, and usability, allowing the shed to accommodate a wider range of functions and users, including those requiring wheelchair and mobility access.
Together, these upgrades will preserve the integrity of this important heritage structure while transforming it into a safe, long-lasting and versatile space.
Other recipients of the GCBF included the Australian Camp Oven Festival Millmerran Inc. which received two grants.
The first was for $11,000 to upgrade the facilities at the Rocky Creek Mount Emlyn Soldiers Memorial Hall.
The second was $33,500 for hosting the biennial Australian Camp Oven Festival which is set for October this year.
The Cecil Plains Golf Club received $22,799 for the purchase of a mower and to upgrade its facility.
Further afield, Pilton Soldiers’ Memorial Hall was also approved for funding with a grant of $33,096.50 for facility upgrades.
The GCBF program delivers support to a wide range of projects, assisting with financial costs including facility upgrades, purchasing vehicles, equipment and supplies, and delivering training programs and community events.
Attorney-General, Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity, Deb Frecklington, said the GCBF supported the organisations and people who dedicate their time to strengthening communities across Queensland.
“These organisations are at the heart of our communities, and grant funding from the GCBF ensures they can continue to operate and deliver vital services for Queenslanders,” the Attorney-General said.
“I congratulate the latest round of successful applicants and thank them for their continued dedication and commitment to serving their communities.
“I look forward to seeing the difference this funding makes to this round’s recipients,” she said.
